You don’t give the dishes a second thought when they’re scream-laughing as you chase them around the kitchen. Or when they butcher a word, but it’s so wildly funny that you don’t correct them. Or when they’re methodically collecting crusty sidewalk leaves.
At the beginning of our session, while they’re still getting their bearings I’ll snag some solid mantle-worthy photos. But once they’re comfortable, we’re rolling with whatever they throw at us.
Are they cranky? I’ll catch the split second smile between hearing their name and remembering what they’re upset about
.
Can’t sit still? Let’s focus on pictures of you two as parents while they run around — they’ll get fomo seeing us having fun and come right back.
Pitchin’ a fit? We’ll press pause so they can feel their feelings.
Want to play? Then play! And count me in!
No one, including me and especially kids, wants to spend time forcing fun or forcing a smile. So here’s the plan: let them be kids and love the heck out of them. Your photos will bottle up allllll the unforced goodness of your family.
What location works best for your family and vision? We’ll find just the right one whether it’s an area I know, a sentimental spot, or your very own backyard. Looking at your closet in despair? I’ll save ya with some suggestions.
Tell me about your kids (and your obligatory disclaimers about them). I’ll turn your worries into excitement, cause having a good time is a non-negotiable. Afterwards I’ll send ya everything necessary to get your session locked in!
Mama, as long as you’re okay letting go of any stress, I promise we’ll get the shot. And then some.
Happy ones as your kids root and toot around. Others of the whole family being all cutesy. Even some are dedicated to one on one time with your kiddo, to highlight the special bond you share.
Oh, and when’s the last time you had a picture taken of just the two of you? Can’t remember huh?
Everyday they look a little different, they grow like weeds, and give no warning to when their last newborn scrunch will be. In the first two months you want to document just how tiny they are at the very beginning.
AND…
How you made room in your heart and in your home for this little one. How you now look at one another as parents like “Holy shit, we made a person and they’re here in our arms.” Along with all of the sweetness (and elated exhaustion) of the early days.
